Obituary for Aida DiMiceli (Caiafa)

Aida DiMiceli (Caiafa)
Aida DiMiceli (Caiafa), 85, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on March 15th after a hard fought battle with COVID.

Aida was born on November 9th, 1935 to Pasquale and Maria (Alaia) Caiafa in Naples, Italy and emigrated to the U.S. as a young girl growing up in Boro Park, Brooklyn. Aida attended Brooklyn College graduating with a degree in education.

In April 1968 Aida married Anthony DiMiceli at Regina Pacis church in Brooklyn and together had two children, twin boys, Peter and Robert. Aida was a devoted loving mother to Peter and Robert, a loving mother in law to her daughter in law Donna and a generous, loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Michael and Nicolas.

Aida was a public school language teacher, teaching Italian, French and Spanish at the high school level. She taught the romance languages at James Madison high school in Brooklyn, the school she retired from after many years of teaching.

Throughout Aida’s life and continuing after retiring from teaching, Aida shared a passion for the arts and culture as well as a passion for travel and learning. She always stressed the importance of education, a reason she chose to be a teacher but also for her own benefit, as she constantly challenged herself to learn more, whether it was additional languages, photography or art. She would take many courses during her free time to learn things that interested her. Aida traveled the world and loved to attend the opera and Broadway with her friends.

Aida was predeceased by her parents, Pasquale and Maria Caiafa and her brother Guido Caiafa. She is survived by her brother Mario Caiafa.
