Obituary for
Maria Antonia Vitello (Indelicato)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Antonia Vitello (known as Antionetta), who died on July 27, 2022, at 88 years old. She was the beloved wife of Baldassare “Sal” Vitello, the mother of her two daughters: Mimma Finger and Enza (John) Dattero, and the grandmother (or Nonna) to her grandchildren: Erica Dattero, Rita Dattero, Jaclyn (Jules) Denora, and Andrew Finger.
As the daughter of Vincenzina and Pasquale Indelicato, Maria was born on January 1, 1934. She immigrated from Italy to Brooklyn in 1956, where she worked as a talented seamstress for many years. She served as the matriarch of her family, having four younger siblings, Maria (Gerlando) Agro, Gaspare (Mary) Indelicato, Guiseppe (Linda) Indelicato, and Grace (Vito) Signorelli. Maria was blessed with many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren in her life.
Maria was a devoted wife to Sal, to whom she was married for 66 years. Together the two of them always opened their Bensonhurst home as a place for family and friends to gather, especially on Christmas Eve. She was a fantastic cook and showed her love through her time-honored, Italian recipes, always ensuring nobody went home hungry. Truly nothing made her happier than caring for others and being surrounded by her loved ones, especially her grandchildren.
Maria was very religious, especially devoted to the Blessed Mother and St. Rita, and was an active parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini.
Maria will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her in her nearly 9 decades here with us. It brings the family great comfort knowing she is reunited with her daughter, Enza, her parents, and her sister, Grace, in Heaven.
