Obituary for William Coccodrilli

William (Bill) Coccodrilli, a lifelong Brooklyn resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was 92.
Bill was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Jean, and his beloved brothers Dominick and Robert. He leaves behind three loving children, Robert and his wife Jessica, Linda and her husband Cliff, Bill and his fiancee Sandra; and eight cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Christopher, Emily, Camryn, Sarah, Justin, Julia and John.
Bill was born in Brooklyn on October 9, 1931, to the late Robert and Ida (née Lisi). He grew up in Brooklyn and told many stories of the wonderful childhood he had despite coming from humble beginnings. He spoke of the endless baseball games he and his friends played, swimming off of the rocks in the bay with his brothers, and the wonderful times spent in Pennsylvania with extended family. Bill was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country honorably during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Bill began his career in the New York City Police Department and after 20 years he retired as a detective.
Bill met his beloved wife at a church dance. They married on May 21, 1966 and three children soon followed. Always putting his family first, he built a home in the Adirondacks where they escaped the summer city heat, on the beautiful Schroon Lake, swimming and boating. This gave Bill great joy. Bill was an avid hunter who enjoyed many years of hunting with family and friends. He attended many of his grandchildren's extracurricular activities such as sporting events, dance recitals and band performances. He was their biggest fan.
Bill was known for his strong belief in God and his love for his country. He shared many stories of encounters he survived by the grace of God and always expressed how thankful and proud he was to be an American.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Scarpaci Funeral, 1404 86th Street, Brooklyn.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church.
Interment with military honors will follow at Cypress Hills, Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in William’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
