Condolence: I havent been in touch w jim since the late 70s (except for a random encounter at one of the brattleboro dawn dances in the 80s!),when we were part of a great community that often centered at the newman center. Jim and his good friend Sue were always at the center of organizing and urging us to some good cause or other, as well as being so kind and sweet and funny! .
Ive lost touch with everyone, and he came to mind recently, and I drcided to try and look him up, and I am very sorry to hear of his passing.
We were all so young then, with missions to change the world, for the better, especially Jim.
My condolences to all those he held near and dear. The testimonials I’ve read here and elsewhere, especially from his former students, confirm he was the same wonderful Jim.

Condolence: He was a great Law professor. I learned a lot in his class my senior year. It was a night class but he made it interesting enough to stay awake for. He was always kind and always told me if I needed a reference or recommendation letter, he'd be glad to write it. He will be missed.

Condolence: Professor Castagna was a rare gem; he was genuinely passionate about Law, Education, and his students. He was insightful and brilliant with a heart of gold. I had the pleasure of being one of his many students and can confidently say Pace University will not be the same without him. Rest In Peace, Professor, and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. The Pace community will not forget you.

Condolence: I am totally devastated at the news of Jimmy's passing. I was a close friend of his back in the 1970s when we were both students at NYU. He had a witty sense of humor that was unstoppable and that could easily make me forget my troubles. He was also extremely empathetic and could connect with you on a fundamentally instinctive level. I am so sad to have lost a good friend and will always remember the warmth he had in his heart.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Professor Castagna. I was one of his students in his Mock Trial Seminar a few semesters ago at Pace. He was a really kind and funny professor, and I learned so much valuable information in his class. He pulled me aside after class one day to ask if I wanted to go to law school, and I said I was thinking about it. He told me that I would be a great lawyer and I should definitely pursue it. This meant the world to me because he really encouraged me and gave me a sense of confidence in my abilities. He even offered to help me get an internship if I needed. I'll be starting law school this fall, and will not forget the positive impact Professor Castagna had on me as a student. May He Rest in Peace.

Condolence: I am shocked and saddened at losing Jim Castagna. I worked with him for many years, both when he taught for the Honors College at Pace and also to promote his Mock Trial team. He was extraordinarily gracious with his time to our students, and he was always smiling when I saw him. All of Pace will miss him, but his students that he had and the ones he never knew will miss him most.
