Obituary for Joseph Licciardi

Joseph (Joe) Licciardi passed away suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 3rd at home in the arms of his loving wife, Catherine Pino.

A self-made man, Joe schooled himself in computer science and networks and started Pure Logic, an IT strategy and management company over 3 decades ago, which grew to great success with 2 partners, 7 employees, and an office in Chelsea, NYC. A generous soul, Joe was always ready to answer questions and offer advice about all things electronic, often helping his friends with their computers and phones.

Joe left behind 2 daughters, Stephanie and Natalie that he loved very dearly. He was so proud of all their accomplishments and was a kind father to them, sending them emails about things they might be interested in and finding them his own personal gifts to show how much they meant to him.

He and his wife Catherine had a long-term loving relationship of 35 years. They first met in high school. Unbeknownst to them at that time, they would become a model couple, with many friends old and new. Joe was handy and often surprised Catherine with things that he thought would make her life easier, such as hooks he made from hangers to hold the leash to the family’s beloved dog Salty, who Joe liked to call “DOG.”

Joe loved being at his house on Long Island, riding on his mower, and growing things like basil for pizza. One of his hobbies had him building a pizza oven in the backyard, perfecting his dough recipe and toppings ratio. His pizzas were sheer perfection, and he loved to make them for his guests. Joe was a great host and loved having people over.

An avid reader of the news and associated comments, Joe was interested in our world, and a great conversationalist. In fact, he has several comments of his own published online! An avid sports fan, Joe kept up with his favorite sports teams, regularly watching his beloved Rangers and rapidly texting his brother and best friend after every goal. A loyal person, he also was a long-suffering, but ever hopeful Mets fan.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary, Mother of Jesus Church at 2326 84th Street in Brooklyn at 9:30 AM Friday, Feb. 9th. Donations in his name are suggested to Coalition for the Homeless, as Joe often shared food and money to the homeless he encountered on the streets of his Greenwich Village neighborhood.

A good man with a big heart, Joe will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife and daughters, Joe is survived by his brother, Mike (Mig) Licciardi, and is preceded in death by his father and mother, Rosario (Sal) and Teresa Licciardi.
